Snowmobile tours in Kiruna and Abisko: which route fits?
Updated October 28, 2026 · 3 min read
Choose the route by what you want to see in daylight, not by the word “snowmobile”. Kiruna forest tours are efficient and usually start closer to town. Abisko routes add mountain and Torneträsk scenery but require a transfer or a separate starting point. Aurora rides trade landscape detail for darkness.
Three distinct outings
The guided Kiruna snowmobile tour lists three hours, a route towards the Torne River valley and surrounding forest, plus a coffee break. It is the straightforward first ride. An Abisko panorama tour is better for open mountain views. A northern-lights ride is chosen for the night atmosphere, not because a snowmobile improves solar activity.
Drivers must follow the operator’s licence and age rules; passengers may share a machine. Confirm this, along with protective clothing, insurance terms and any excess, on the booking page. Never assume that a transfer from Kiruna is included in an activity titled “Abisko”.
Our choice: a daylight Kiruna forest ride for beginners, Abisko for scenery-focused repeat visitors, and an aurora snowmobile only when riding after dark is itself appealing. If your sole aim is the sky, a heated minibus gives more flexibility and less distraction.
